Outline passenger transport operations within the UK. 

Types of UK passenger provision

• Scheduled domestic flights: This range of this transport is frequently used for people who travel around the UK for work and works out more beneficial than driving or getting the train. People also take the plane if they are visiting friends and relatives.

• Rail - local, national, light rail, underground & tram: This range of this transport is the most economical and efficient when getting around London 
  Local - overground rail services that are found within a city. National — overground rail services that run long distances around the UK. Light rail - lower capacity and lower speed trains that  have higher capacity and higher speed than trams. Underground - trains that run under ground but sometimes comes to the surface. Tram - runs on tracks along public urban streets.
• Bus & coach - national & local: national (operate all over the UK) and local (operate within a certain local area)
• Transfers - Taxi:this range of this transport can be pre arranged or just grab a taxi from somewhere
• Domestic ferries - Isle of Wight ferries: Isle of Wight ferries, this range of this transport is normally used to carry passengers and their vehicles across a section of water 
• River bus:  this range of this transport carries around 100 people along the river thames 
• Other providers - park and ride, airports & network rail: network rail manage and look after the stations and other any maintenance services to the rail lines. 
  park and ride schemes allow people wishing to travel into a small city centre or airport and park away in a car park and jump on a bus
  airports have facilities that provide air transport and scheduled domestic flights for people traveling around the UK 
  
  

Features of transport - Including differing cost is the range of money it costs for using the transport type and the difference of prices during seasons and the 24 hour day.

• Value for money: how much it is and is it worth it 
• Classes available: First class, business class, upper economy and economy class
• Facilities onboard & at terminals: for example wifi and toilets 
• Accessibility: how easy is it to get to and onboard 
• Comfort and service: is it a high or low level of customer service and is the seat and transportation comfy.

Scheduled Domestic Flights - Privately owned company 

• Compared price to Virgin train
• Value for money - £10 difference between two prices
• Classes available - only economy because it is a domestic flight
• Facilities onboard - free beverages and newspapers
• Accessibility - from airports/ book online
• Comfort and service - Leather chair

There is a difference of £10 one is hand baggage only and the other is with 23kg of luggage checked in. The price with luggage included as also allows passengers to choose their seat for free at check in.

On early morning  flights there are hot drinks and hot breakfast options to choose from. On all other flights there are free snack and hot and cold drinks. On all flights you get a complimentary newspaper .At the Virgin lounge in Heathrow airport you get food, drinks, newspapers and free Wi-Fi to enjoy whilst waiting for your flight. You can fly with British Airways from airports and book flights online or in travel. All seats are contoured leather seats for extreme comfort and cabin crew will be walking around the aircraft offering food and drink

National Rail - Privately owned company 

• Including differing cost & Classes available - Standard ticket and First class ticket ( can also get two classes in tickets in advance so it is cheaper

My example for national rail will be Virgin Trains, on first class train there is: complimentary food and drink, more leg room, at seat service, a table and plug point at every seat, free Wi-Fi, copies of the times and financial times, access to the 1st class lounge at Euston station and there are fridges stocked with water but in Coach K staff bring the water to the people.  At the first class lounge in Euston Station  you can get free hot and non-alcoholic drinks, snacks and papers and there are also corporate areas where there are desks, meeting rooms you can book and TV’s showing BBC news. There is free Wi-Fi and you be in the lounge two hours before the train goes and one hour after arrives. The trains stop at 42 stations on 17 different routes.

Light rail, Underground & Tram - Privately owned companies

DLR
There are no classes on the train as there are just carriages. The payment methods are travel cards, contactless payment card and oyster cards. To travel from zone one to zone six one way costs £5.10 in peak times and during off peak times a one way fare is £3.10. Most of the 39 DLR are elevated (not on street level) however at each station there is at least one lift meaning it is accessible to everyone. At some of the stations there is access to free Wi-fi for people who with certain mobile providers; Virgin, EE, 3, 02 and Vodafone. Each DLR train has four carriages which has 70 seats and can roughly fit 284 people on board. During peak times, the trains run every 3.5 minutes but during off peak times and on the weekends there is a 5-10 minute wait

Central line
The payment methods are travel cards, contactless payment card and oyster cards. To travel from zone one to zone six one way costs £5.10 in peak times and during off peak times a one way fare is £3.10. At some of the stations there is access to free Wi-fi for people who with certain mobile providers; Virgin, EE, 3, 02 and Vodafone.
There are 34 trains per hour and During peak times, the trains run every 3.5 minutes but during off peak times and on the weekends there is a 5-10 minute wait. On the central line there are 272 seats per train and can hold up too https://tfl.gov.uk/tube/route/central/892 people in each train 

Tram
Pay as you go for £1.50 with a contactless payment or Oyster card on all trams in London. Paper single tickets  cost £2.60. There are four different routes through central Croydon from Wimbledon, Beckenham, Elmers End and New Addington. At the moment the trams do not have Wif-Fi but they are looking of ways to proved internet to the travellers.  On the trams there are around 75 seats and there are three carriages so they can carry on average 200 people on every tram.

Bus and coach - Privately Owned Companies 

TFL Buses

£1.50 with a contactless payment or Oyster card on all London buses however you can not use cash to pay for your bus fare. 

The new buses has a step-free gangway on the lower deck from the front to the back, allowing ease of access for people with mobility impairments and passengers with buggies. There is a large wheelchair bay directly opposite the ramped centre door. Passengers are alerted to the next stop by audio and visual announcements. There's also a T-Loop system which transmits announcements for passengers with hearing aids.  In 2014, they were trialling Wi-Fi on two different routes and also a digital display showing information about available seats on the top deck. There are over 6,800 scheduled buses operate on over 700 different routes. And by every year the buses carry over 1.8 billion passengers.

National Express

To get from London Victoria station to Stansted airport costs around £5 or more peak times it costs £8, these prices are based on a single ticket travelling on the 7th of March. Facilities onboard - power sockets, air-conditioning and WiFi on certain routes.
The company have announced a new range of buses where they are having a first class  where they offer first class quality and service which include more leg room and luggage space. National Express coaches leave from 30 stations. There is no onboard service currently  onboard but you can bring food and drink as long as you are thinking of the others onboard when making noise eating and no smelly food. There are around 50 seats on each coach.

For a return from Yarmouth to Lymington it costs £14, 

It takes around 40 minutes – that’s the shortest and fastest car ferry route to the Isle of Wight 

You can have a hot or a cold drink and have some snacks from the café-bar. At the terminal when you are waiting to go on the ferry there is a: ticket office, Costa, Toilets and  a place to store bikes.

You can get to the Leamington Car ferry terminal by getting a bus from outside the  Leamington Peir station or by parking your car up for a fee. To park for a day it costs around £8.20

Comfort and service -  There are comfortable lounges and open decks onboard for people to enjoy 

River Bus

There are toilets with disabled toilets on most of the boats and on the bigger boats there also baby changing tables inside the toilets, there is a costa coffee onboard or you can grab a snack and drink a glass of wine. You can also get the Metro and City AM newspapers for free onboard . All of the boats are wheelchair accessible by ramp.

Always a riverside view seat which also have plenty of space. There are leather seats in the middle of the cabin, sink into a couch by the window or stand out on the deck

City airport 

As it is a airport there is no classes available or value for money, the only value for money is the flights might be cheaper flying out of the city rather than an airport not directly in London.There is free Wi-Fi at the airport. Before security there are places to purchase hot and cold food and places to drink. There is also a WHSmith. Once in the departure lounge there are: five places to eat,  and there are six shops to mooch around and pass some time before a flight. The airport is only 22 minute from Bank station and is the perfect airport to fly into London.

Park and ride at city airport
There are three different car parks at City airport: valet parking, short stay parking and long stay parking. 

In valet parking, prices are from £92 (single day) to £201 (15 days)
Short stay park ranges from £7.50(up to  30 mins) to £594 (15 days)
Long stay parking ranges from £22 (up to four hours) to £201(15 days)

The valet parking is inside the short stay parking lot, which is only a maximum of a five minute walk to to the terminal and the two parking plans are ideal for business travellers. There is also disabled parking in the short stay car park.

The long stay parking lot is around 10 minutes from the terminal and is ideal for people going on long holidays.

Network rail 

look after  18 of the biggest stations across Britain.
They manage the departure and arrival boards and updating station information such as the weather . Their goals are to have more trains that carry passengers faster and improve stations.
They also announce delays and works to the trains up to 12 weeks in advance.

Roles of Regulators

Regulatory Bodies

• Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) - The CAA purpose is to make sure that safety and performance is at the highest standard possible. It is run by the government funded by members. 
• Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) - The ORR are a independent safety regulator for the railways in Britain's and monitor of the highways in England.They make sure the network operates safely. Also the ORR makes sure that train and freight operating companies have fair access to the rail network so everyone can use the rail tracks.

Government departments/ Agencies

• Department for transport - The department for transport work with many agencies and partners around the UK to to support the transport network that gets everyone around the UK and they also invest in  transport infrastructure to keep the UK stable and always trying to be better.

• Traffic Commissioners - They are responsible for the licensing and regulation of Lorries, buses and coaches, and the registration of local bus services.

Other bodies

• Transport Focus- Their mission is to get the best deal for passengers and road users. With a strong emphasis on evidence-based campaigning and research, They also know what is happening on the roads and try to make improvements happen to make a difference to the UK.
• Air traffic control - They offer a service which direct aircraft on the ground and through controlled airspace.
